The Executive

History of our Group

We're a merry band and not everyone wants to go on stage to act or sing or dance. If you fancied joining our group there are lots of possible opportunities to use your talents on and off stage:

Writing: we write all our pantomimes and many sketches for our summer revue.

Props and scenery: all backcloths are painted by talented members plus props and flats created. Often needing technical solutions to directions given in the script.

Lighting and sound: effects decided upon, edited onto the laptop and given in the correct order on show nights from the loft.

Music and choreography to enliven every show.

Costumes to be made or adapted from our large costume collection.

Front of House on the nights to assist our audience and provide refreshments.

There is more of course, but please email us if you're interested.

In 1976 a group of local mums thought it would be fun to celebrate 10 years of the National Playgroup scheme with a variety show. Spouses, partners, their children and friends were all roped in. With only 5 weeks to go before their performance they thought it might be a good idea to ask someone to point them in the right direction - the lovely Sheila P. Highly delighted she accepted the task. Rehearsals took place in the Snug of the Royal Oak pub in Stonnall where there was a piano. The resulting show proved to be a huge success.

And so, once started, they continued. 'Let's do a Pantomime,' Sheila P said. With no money, they decided to write their own script for 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. Now many years later the group still write their own scripts, make the costumes, make the props, paint the scenery and create their own effects. And of course make lasting friendships.
